807 volunteer millers effortlessly set a world record this morning. With an “excellent grinding wind” they all turned their mills simultaneously from 11:00 to 12:00. Even abroad, 29 volunteer millers participated, as far away as New Zealand (even though it was already late in the evening there).
This morning’s world record attempt was primarily intended to draw attention to the craft of miller. In its fifty years of existence, the Guild has trained some 2,300 millers. Most of them are volunteers, but the fifty millers who later made it their profession were also trained by the Guild. But the interest in training is declining.
It is a profession for young and old, but you have to be healthy and a bit physically strong. It’s hard work going up and down the stairs all the time. Our mill, for example, has nine attics, it is 32 meters high.
