During a historical swimming tour called “Elfstedenzwemtocht” the Dutch Maarten van der Weijden raised more than 4.4 milion dollar (3.9 milion euro).
He has successfully completed his second attempt swimming the route of the Elfstedentocht. The swimmer finished in Leeuwarden on Monday at 7.30 p.m. after a swim of 195 kilometers.
The Olympic champion was cheered at the finish by the many spectators.
He raised the money raised for cancer research.
Tens of thousands of people along route
The Olympic champion was welcomed by tens of thousands of people during his swimming trip. Many children were given a day off from school on Monday to encourage the swimmer.
